Chris Heidel - The season's first game has Blue Hens Football Coach Danny Rocco watching his team fight off struggles early on to pull away late in 2nd half with a 22-3 win over Hornets of Delaware State.. Coach Rocco said during post game press conference that his team did not play well but he was happy to get the win on opening night of 2017 the College football season.
The Blue Hens defense controlled the line of scrimmage against Hornets, only giving up 59 yards on the ground and recovering 2 fumbles and picking off Hornets QB Mc Daniels once late in 4th quarter to seal the game for Blue Hens. Diante Cherry was the player of the game, catching a TD pass and running for a TD early in the 4th quarter to give the Blue Hens their 8th straight win over their neighbor from Dover Delaware. The next game for Blue Hens is a matchup with ACC 2016 Coastal Division Champs the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg, VA. next Saturday Sept 9th at 3:30pm.
