Rob J. Moore - My alumni pride was bruised deeply after Towson fell hard to the Terps with a final score of 63-17. Maryland hit hard and fast with a 9 yard touchdown pass with 12:20 to play in the 1st quarter. They would strike twice more before the end of the quarter with a 34 yard TD pass from quarterback D.J. Moore and a 74 yard run TD courtesy of Ty Johnson.
The 2nd quarter marked Towson’s first appearance on the scoreboard after a 10 yard pass from quarterback Ryan Stover, The Terps responded with a 75 yard interception return by Darnell Savage Jr., making he score 21-7. Halftime provided only a short respite for the Tigers as Maryland scored quickly in the 3rd quarter thanks to a 46 yard running TD from Ty Johnson, followed quickly with 25 yard running TD from Jake Funk. The Terps rounded out the 3rd quarter with a 21 yard running TD by quarterback D.J. Moore. The 4th quarter brought slightly less tragedy to the Tigers as, even though Maryland scored early with a 1 yard run, Rodney Dorsey managed to catch a 59 yard pass for a Tigers touchdown. Javon Leake avenged the Terps with a 61 yard running TD. The Tigers managed to tack on 3 l points with a FG from Aidan O’Neill, closing out an extremely painful game. All in all, Towson got away with only 2 turnovers and 17 first downs while Maryland had 23 first downs and zero turnovers. Towson’s day consisted of 99 rushing yards and a total of 210 passing yards, including giving up 2 interceptions. The Terps finish the day with 367 rushing yards and 167 passing yards.
